Tacky Jacks gives the gift of mobilty
to a Wounded Warrior for the holidays
thanks to donations!

Retired Marine Staff Sargent Jason Picaro, receives an Action Track Chair
from the waterfront restaurant chain.

The Marlin that makes wishes come true granted a Wounded Warrior the gift of mobility for the holidays. When Tacky Jacks set out to raise money to give away an Action Track Chair to a Veteran in need they had no idea that they would meet their goal so fast. The donations that were received at each of the three Tacky Jacks locations and online were matched dollar for dollar by the restaurant chain allowing them to meet their goal in just three short months.

Staff Sargent Jason Picaro, a retired Marine, was presented the chair at a ceremony at Tacky Jacks in Orange Beach on December 18. Jason joined the Marines at 17 and was deployed once in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It wasn€™t until he came home on leave to visit his fianc ƒƒƒƒƒƒ ƒƒƒ‚ ƒƒ‚ ƒ‚ ‚ © that he was hit by a suspected drunk driver leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Jason was honored by Senior Vice Commandant Donald €œScooter€ Fredrickson of the Marine Corps League, Commandant Mike Graham, Staff Sargent James Lopes, and several Marines of Aviation Maintenance Squadron 1 that are stationed at Pensacola NAS.

Staff Sargent Jason Picaro expressed his gratitude for the generous gift saying that now his wife and two kids would be able to do more together in places they usually would not be able to. Thanks to the chair he will now be able to take his kids to the beach and hunting, something he has been unable to do in the past nine years.

€œOur customers are great and their caring for others is shown through their generosity in this campaign. I got a call one day from the bartender at Gulf Shores that said she had a customer that wanted to give a substantial donation. She was in tears when she told me that they were going to give $1,000 to the cause€, said Ken Kichler, CFO at Tacky Jacks. We are proud to be able to provide this gift to someone so deserving and are already working towards raising money for a second chair.€

Tacky Jacks would like to thank Sugar Sands Realty for providing a place for Jason to stay while in Orange Beach, the Orange Beach Fire Department, elected officials, and everyone that came out to share in the day.
